The representation of woman in Turkish television series: The example of the tv series titled "Kadin", "Ufak Tefek Ci̇nayetler" and "İstanbullu Gelin"

Being different from the concept of sex, which represents the biological differences between man and woman, gender roles are attributed to the individuals by the society that they live in, and it is believed that these gender roles can cause an inequality in terms of the roles that are given to man and woman. All of these inequalities in gender roles can cause woman to be inferior to man in the society that they live in. Besides the institutions in which gender roles are learned starting from childhood like school and family, it is known that media can have an impact on reinforcing the gender roles. Considering that television and its series have an important place in the mass media in terms of its accessibility and its viewer population, it can be said that TV series provide important gender roles and examining these roles can be regarded as an important part of gender studies. It is believed that TV series provide important gender roles for the society. That is why, in this study, the examination of the Turkish TV series "Kadın", "Ufak Tefek Cinayetler" and "İstanbullu Gelin"has been made in terms of the women representations which they present by using the method of discourse analysis. It has been concluded that these TV series present women representations which usually support the existing gender roles and they include such women representations which are against the existing gender roles in a very small rate in line with the researches which have been made about Turkish TV series.
