Leftist opposition movements in Turkey in the 1960s and their impacts on theatre

This study briefly is an attempt to comprehend the convergence of the struggles of intellectuals, students and artists for rights and freedoms in Turkey's changing political atmosphere in 1960s with the leftist ideology and the reflections of this convergence in the field of culture and arts. In this context we have examined the intellectual-ideological initiatives that took place in the new social ground created by the freedoms of 1961 Constitution and the structures that can be expressed as their practical reflections. In our thesis, the unique identity that the leftist ideology acquired in Turkey in parallel with the developments in the world conjuncture is discussed through its organisational reflections and ideological debates, while the impact of this unique identity on workers, labourers, students, and intellectuals is examined in the context of its reflections especially in the field of theatre and the course of Turkish Political Theatre.
