Abstract (EN)

This study was conducted to examine employee happiness in the Turkish wood panel industry. Employee happiness is a multidimensional concept that encompasses individuals' levels of job satisfaction, their satisfaction with working conditions, and their organizational commitment. The wood panel industry is a sector that significantly contributes to the Turkish economy and requires a skilled workforce. In this context, understanding how employee happiness is shaped within the sector, evaluating workforce dynamics, and developing strategies to enhance employee satisfaction are of great importance. In the study, the "Employee Happiness Scale" (ESS) developed by Akduman (2021) was used to measure employee happiness. With the survey study conducted on 261 people working in 14 private sector wood panel production facilities across Turkey, data on employees' work environment, working conditions and commitment to their jobs were collected and statistical analysis was carried out in SPSS environment with parametric and nonparametric tests. An analysis of the demographic data revealed that 78.2% of the participants were male, the average age was 37.7 years, and approximately 80% held undergraduate or postgraduate degrees. According to the findings, it was observed that sector employees were happy only in the sub-dimensions of "Coworkers" and "Opportunities for Self-Development", they were "Undecided" in terms of other sub-dimensions and the General Happiness Scale, the happiness scale values of male employees in the sub-dimension of "Working Conditions" were statistically significantly higher than female employees, the mean happiness score in the sub-dimension of "coworkers" was higher for white-collar employees (4.03±0.84) than for blue-collar employees (3.66±0.84) and this difference was statistically significant. The results of the research draw attention to issues such as reviewing employee recognition and reward policies, sensitizing working conditions to gender differences and increasing career development opportunities for blue-collar employees.
