Abstract (EN)
Migration refers to the process of individuals or communities moving from one settlement to another for various social, political and economic reasons and is a phenomenon as old as human history. In addition, the phenomenon of migration causes important economic, cultural and social changes for both the sending and receiving countries and brings with it additional problems such as unemployment. Unemployment is defined as the inability of individuals who are ready and willing to work to find suitable job opportunities, and this situation is explained by various theories. Efforts to find a solution to the unemployment problem are addressed at both national and international levels through labor migration, legal regulations and various employment policies. Unemployment rates, which are especially high among the young population in Turkey, have become even more complicated with the integration of Syrian immigrants into the labor market. Since Syrian workers generally accept to work for low wages, unregistered and insecure conditions, employers prefer this cheaper workforce instead of local labor. This situation has increased competition in the local labor market, increased local unemployment rates and deepened economic inequalities. Within the scope of this study, the effects of migration movements in Turkey on unemployment are discussed through the example of Syrian migration. In addition, the thesis, which focuses on the Syrian example, aims to contribute to the development of effective policy recommendations by examining the effects of migration on unemployment in detail and by evaluating the consequences of these dynamics in terms of social integration and economic justice. It also emphasizes the effects of international relations, political structures and globalization within the framework of migration theories and various economic theories regarding unemployment. This study, which is thought to help identify current deficiencies in unemployment, is expected to be an important resource that will guide future studies.
