Evaluation of Turkey's first hydroelectric power plant-Tarsus HEPP within the scope of industrial heritage and proposals for protection

Industrial heritage; it covers the building, area, landscape, ruins and industrial processes that carry the values of the period. While these elements provide data on cultural, economic and social relations, they also form the memory of the city. The conservation efforts and importance of the industrial heritage started to be discussed with the Nizhny Tagil Regulation after 1950. It became important in Turkey after the 1990s. In this study, 19th century. In this study, it is aimed to evaluate Turkey's first hydroelectric power plant in Tarsus district of Mersin, where there are examples of industrialization with the development of transportation trade, as an industrial heritage. In addition, food factories, power plants; textile, canned food and brick-ceramic factories were operating. These factories are being destroyed today by negligence, unconscious repairs and new functions given by decisions. The preservation of the industrial heritage of Tarsus is important for the sustainability of the urban memory, as detailed documentation has not been made of the buildings, some of which continued to function and some of them lost their function after being used until the 1950s. Among these industrial heritages, Tarsus Hydroelectric Power Plant is in danger of extinction, especially due to misuse. Within the scope of the thesis; industry, industrial heritage, hydroelectric power plants, the location, economy, climate of Tarsus, the current state of the building within the scope of the thesis, by examining and documenting the historical and architectural features of the period it was built and researching its original situation. The thesis covers the survey, restitution and restoration proposal of the power plant located on block 441, parcel 58.
