Evaluation of facility management in hospitals in turkey with terms of international standards: The case of Ankara City Hospital

Increasing human population day by day, extending people's life expectancy and increasing the proportion of the elderly population necessitate the treatment of more people in healthcare facilities (HF) as a result of emerging new and epidemic diseases. The most basic way to overcome these problems is to increase the service performance level in HF as a result of improving the service processes in HF and increasing the management quality level. One of the basic components in the successful execution of the services provided in HF is healthcare facility management (HFM). In this context, the most basic problem experienced in the goal of improving HFM is the lack of a single correct method or guide that can be applied to all HFM organizations. There is no study that makes a holistic evaluation in the field of HFM and focuses on HFM in general. In this study, the conceptual framework of the facility management (FM) concept, both general and the sub-headings of the concept of FM, healthcare systems, HF and HFM, combined hospital management, integrated service processes in HF, risk management in HF, international standards and the United States. HF services issues were examined. In Ankara Bilkent City Hospital, where the fieldwork of the study was carried out, the understanding of HFM was evaluated in the light of the results of the field study and various suggestions were made. With this study, which is different from the existing studies in the field of HFM, holistic research has been carried out that examines both the FM approach and the current status of the services provided by considering the FM serving in a large and integrated HF in a holistic framework.
