Job safety inspection in Turkey: Problems and solutions

Work security regulations were made and work inspectors were appointed in the Factory Act in the United Kingdom in 1833 after the industrial revolution and similar arrangements had spread in the other European countries and the United States until 1900 As industrialization is not achieved in the period of Ottoman Empire limited laws were made for increasing the coal production. Unfortunately work security regulations were not made until the first of the Republic Responsibility of workers protection for employers was made in the law of obligations dated 1926. Work security regulations was taken part in the law of work dated 1936. Work inspectors were appointed in 1937. Numbered 81 Job Security Control Agreement regard International Labour Organization (ILO) was accepted in 1951. European Union's 24 directives and ILO's 59 contracts have been accepted by The Grand National Assembly of Turkey so far. Although all of these a separate work safety law was published in the Official Gazette in 2012 Turkey is third in the world, the first in Europe in fatal work accidents and 301 workers were dead in a mine accident in Soma in 2014. All these shows that work security controls in Turkey Republic is not deterrent and effective In this thesis in order to help to set up an effective and deterrent work safety control system in Turkey Republic, existing problems were detected and presented solutions
