Abstract (EN)
Central banks mainly aim to control inflation and keep it at low rates by moderating monetary policies. In order for the monetary policies to be successful in achieving lower rates of inflation, it is paramount to determine the relationship between financial and real sectors. By utilizing the monetary transmission mechanisms, we can understand the channels through which monetary policy affects the real economy and the extent of the effect. Monetary transmission mechanisms could be studied in four categories: Interest rate channel, exchange rate channel, stocks channel and credit channel. The subject of this study is the influence of monetary policy on the credit market. In the study VAR method is used to investigate the association between the macroeconomic data and the credits in Turkey. As the representation of the real economy, we decided the target variable to be theindex of industrial production and the wholesale price index. The changes that occur in the credit volume as the consequence of the monetary policies may result in some changes in the real sector. The extent of the changes in the real sector can be measured by studying the changes in these variables.According to the result of the study, the credit channel in Turkey does not function. As a consequence of the tight monetary policy, the banks are found to supply credit by relying on funds outside of their deposits. For that reason no tightening in the credits emerge.
