Abstract (EN)
In this study, why the museums that started to be established in the middle of the 19th century in our country cannot show enough development until today; designed to observe why museums are different from the west in our country, these institutions have been tried to be understood and explained with the institutionalist theory. Accordingly, (a) the museums and museology in our country as an institution (the Ottoman Empire and Turkey) how it turned out, (b) what kind of institutionalization process is being imported from the west and a new form which is not legitimate in the local institutional context; what is the direction and intensity of institutional pressures in this process and how to deal with them, (c) the purpose of the research was to seek answers to questions of what actor(s) might have played a role in this process.
