Turkey's policies towards the Palestinian-Israeli conflict (1993-2000)

This study focuses on Turkey's foreign policy practices regarding the Palestinian-Israeli conflict between 1993 and 2000. The relations during this period are analyzed through the countries' diplomatic relations in the light of primary sources. The Palestinian-Israeli conflict is examined under a separate heading in the study, and the historical background of the policies between 1993 and 2000 is broadly analyzed from the perspective of the Republic of Turkey. The main aim of this systematic framework is to analyze the general outlines of Turkey's Palestinian and Israeli policies up until the Oslo Peace Process and the changes in these policies after Oslo. The study, covering the years 1993-2000, is the first thesis in the field to examine the issue in light of the State Archives Presidency's Republic Archive and the records of the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM). In this way, it has paved the way for a more objective analysis of Turkey's political and diplomatic moves concerning the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. The study sheds light on the policies of the coalition governments established in Turkey from the Oslo Peace Process to the beginning of the Second Intifada concerning Palestine and Israel. It also discusses the breaking points in Turkey-Israel relations during the Refahyol government period, the fluctuations in diplomatic relations, and the crises in Turkey's domestic politics. The study reveals the policy practices of the coalition governments established between 1993- 2000 towards Palestine and Israel, as well as the factors influencing these policies.
