Abstract (EN)
It can be said that, in addition to the geographical location of the country, its long historical background has influenced the rich and complex structure of Turkish society. Therefore, it is possible to trace the marks of many civilizations from past to present in the cultural heritage of Turkey, which serves as a meeting point for different cultures, languages, and ethnic groups. Some of these civilizations can be listed as the Roman, Persian, Byzantine, Seljuk, and Ottoman empires. In the later periods of the long-lasting Ottoman Empire, modernization efforts, particularly in relation to interactions with the West, became prominent. These efforts are acknowledged to have brought about changes and transformations in the social structure and the perception of identity. This change became more visible with the Republic. During the Republican era, it can be observed that the efforts to transform the multicultural structure inherited from the Ottoman Empire into a more centralized and national identity focused on modernization, westernization, nationalism, and secularism. It is a fact that different segments of society, along with various belief systems, have contributed to Turkey's cultural diversity. Additionally, the traditions, music, dance, cuisine, and handicrafts belonging to different geographical regions of the country are elements that enrich the cultural fabric. In short, within the cultural structure of Turkish society, we can observe the influence of both the rich historical heritage inherited from the past and the process of modernization. In this study, based on secondary data, an attempt was made to understand how the social structure and culture began to form with the founding of the Republic and what kinds of identities emerged. Within this framework, the changes and transformations in social life were studied and analyzed through previous studies, printed texts, and narratives.
