Agriculture support policies adopted during the planned period in Turkey; past, present and future

Agricultural sector has a strategic significance and consequently it has been supported diversely by all of the developed or underdeveloped countries. In this study, the general features of agricultural sector have been studied through theoretic analysis to find out an answer why it is necessary for this sector to adopt such support policies. However in this study, international restrictions and the means of support policies that this sector involves in have also been focused on.To accomplish our goal we have studied the development plans and the support plans adopted in detail, which formed the main material of this study, by putting forth the nature of current agricultural structure. Our study revealed that effective and systemic policies have not been adopted in agriculture in Turkey and solutions have taken shape according to the economic and political conditions. The support policies adopted in Turkey have varied a lot in due course. Unless a solution is found for the current structural problems of the agriculture, it seems impossible for the support policies adopted to reach its target completely and accomplish its functions.
