The cases of deletion in Turkey Turkish

This study investigated the cases of deletion in the written language of Turkey Turkish. To determine the words those undergone deletion, instead of common classic examples, natural and still-in-use sample sentences from literary works were scrutinized in our study. Thirty three novels, story and poetry books were screened out to identify the instances of deletion. The words containing the incidents of deletion were determined in 4483 sentences extracted from those literary works. After the classification of those words in relation to deletion types, the sentences within different categories were ordered alphabetically on the purpose of easier access to them in their own groups. The cases of deletion were, firstly, classified as vowel deletion and consonant deletion. Then these two separate categories were re-categorized according to the place of deletion in the words: deletion occurring at the beginning, at the middle, and at the end of the word. Finally, after presenting the reader with all these categories, the cases of contraction, haplology and fusion were included. The issue of deletion has not been agreed upon a general consensus in the grammar books and related articles. Which terms exactly identify which examples have not been specified, yet. The terms used for this topic are to be: deletion, the cases of deletion, haplology, syncopation, aphaeresis, apocope, contraction, fusion, vowel disappearance, consonant disappearance, syneresis, etc. As can be inferred, multiplicity of the concepts is existent in the field. With the example sentences in current study, this multiplicity was tried to be given within a specific regularity. The aim of present study is to explore the instances of deletion in Turkey Turkish. Our other goals serving for this chief purpose can be summarized as following: Bringing together the relevant information in different grammar books of Turkey Turkish, identifying the cases of deletion in Turkey Turkish taking part in literary works published between 1908- 2013, classifying the living examples of deletion, discussing the causes and consequences of deletion, creating new perspectives on the subject, looking from a broader perspective to the discussions about deletion which have not seemingly come to an end, yet. The relevant literature was reviewed and compiled together at the very beginning of this study. All of the related materials were sorted out according to their own main heading. Then, the natural and still-in-use examples were evaluated after their proper classification. In the final section, an overall assessment was held in the light of the results obtained and of the data presented. The bibliography and index terms took part at the end of this study. After all, the cases of deletion are to be widespread in the overall structure of Turkish language. In the core of this trend, natural changes arising in association with the usage frequency should be mentioned. These changes observed in the time being, obviously, bring out deletion. Another reason for the prevalence of deletion, along with the natural grammatical processes, is the law of least effort, that is to say, the search for easy pronunciation. In our opinion, another key reason, which is also our thesis? principal assertion, is to be the feeling of aesthetic. In Turkish Dictionary (2011: 821) aesthetics means both theoratical science of beauty in art and in life with the general laws of artistic creation, nice sense, aesthetic, releated to the sense of beauty; appropriate sense of beauty. Turks have been placing great importance on aesthetics throughout the course of history. In this regard Turkish has also continued its own growth as an aesthetic language.
