The perceptions that university students have on the university and ideal university

The purpose of this study is to analyze the perception that the Gaziantep university students have on the university and the ideal university by using metaphors. It is thought that through metaphors students can express themselves more clearly. So according to this aim the students had demanded to produce metaphors about the concepts of " university social life, the relationship between lecturers and students and the ideal university social life, in an ideal university the relationship _between lecturers and students. For example; the students who participated in the research were asked to complete the sentences "a) Gaziantep university social life is like??..because; b) An ideal university social life is like??..because;In this study quantitative method and metaphor analysis technique are used for collecting, analyzing and commenting on the data of the _research. The _participants of this study included II. and III. grade students of the Gaziantep university.According to the results of the research it is seen that the metaphors which are produced by the students are variable. For some students Gaziantep University is an ideal university but for most students it is very different from an ideal university.Key words: Metaphor, University Students, University, Ideal University.
