Abstract (EN)

The race, which gets involved in the restructuring of the cities in the direction of an economic line and the increasing activity of the capital, consciously oriented to abolish the phenomenon of publicity. Socio-spatial configurations, which are the carrier effect of the power relations and globalization dynamics, have become the new faces of the cities, making it impossible to define 'place'. While histories and habitats are rapidly changing, spatial interventions lacking the past consciousness which economic order predict indirectly make today's remembering topography different from before. The fact that the cities open to transformation with having references the temporality rather than permanence, and with an understanding of the tendency to its' forgettable geography, affects the mental and contextual relation between space and memory negatively and it becomes a subject for urban amnesia (memory loss). The ideals, meanings, social and spatial practices changed over time reveal that the traces of memory in the urban context have been erased and new representational forms have been created. Semantic shifts and rupture of urban memory which are interrupted, reproduced or manipulated and became fragile through conflicts of power and competitions between dominant ideologies, become visible in today's cities. This work is not limited to acts of remembering and recall, but has been expanded by process of dialectical forgetting. Traces pointing to the urban memory crisis reveal that the socially accepted meaning is diminishing and the frame of the memory has changed. At the same time, large scale projects produced by political authorities that aims to capture its global share from the capital, investment and touristic resources has been discussed with the subject of urban memory. The harmonization of different contents of urban space through the turning points and the carriers of memory, which characterize the values of the place original and in its essence, constitutes the basis of creating the place of memory. The consideration of the indispensable aspects of urban memory and its unchanging complementary elements in the design integrity not only makes possible to create spontaneous dynamic situations, but also generates a contextual framework for the formation of rooted places. For this reason, the integrated framework of the urban memory, namely social, cognitive and physiological, temporal, spatial, experiential and behavioral dimensions, extends from the past to the future, constantly fed by changing processes. The integrity of urban memory frameworks emerges from concerns of complementary, protective and sustainable interventions. In addition to the merely physical environment of urban policy, being possible and functional of evaluating the dynamics of memory frameworks constitutes the main objective of this study. Accordingly, it has been argued which contextual framework will be realized and how a memory acceptance will create continuity and originality in the production and meaning of the socio-spatial memory over 'memory topographies' and 'memory trajectories'. Within this perspective, creating historical, social and spatial continuity is through social group discussions. The collective memory, based on shared pasts and represented by specifical places, is addressed as a dynamic process that is repetition with the interaction between past traces and everyday spatial formations rather than preset narratives. This study researches the relationships among different memory descriptions of places with multiple temporalities in the daily activities of the city. Due to being plural of place, the process of evolution of the collective memory, which is determined, repeated and formed its own trajectory by the users, arises depending upon multiple factors. In this respect, the urban collective memory built by people and constantly changing social relations over time conceptualize under the influence of dynamic, rooting and contextual perspectives. This study argues that spontaneous everyday space should be seen as part of larger memory topographies. On the basis of a relational and reproduced space understanding, intergenerational transfer of memory constitutes the basis of this work. Since there is no one-sided relationship between experiences that settled into the collective memory of the social groups with regard to living time and space, the effects on memory of spending long time or living in a place are discussed. The spatial narrative of the memory of the individuals who experienced the city in different periods is presented in the axis of 'fragile, rupture, manipulation, continuity and unification'. With the conceptual fiction and the following discussions; and with remembering and forgetting paradoxes; it is carried out an analysis carried out based on the narrative experience at Bomonti Neigborhood where the situations of manifestation and disappearance, participation and interruption, continuity and fragility were made visible at the same time. It sets forth a theoretical plexus between memories, place, body and image. The pores that make up the living plane of memory places have been examined with new method which establishes connections between 'ethnographic walking' and 'loci method' that emerged as ars memoria technique."Locus, repetition and diversity (image-body), composition (locus-image)" relations as the spatial manifestations of everyday life and memory trajectories, the interior components of urban memory and the production of space are emerging in the narratives. In this context, the spatial narrative of close relationships established with the everyday life that witnesses the natural evolution of memory places and the collective relations it produces which refers to many movement actions such as 'intersection, gathering and separation' increase recollection opportunities in the urban context, constitute "experience of living" While memory communities that live, work or visit in Bomonti for a long time emphasize the sense of attachment and belonging to the place, a spatial order that is 'ongoing, stable and familiar' under the influence of bodily acts, repetitions, traditions and everyday experiences; the social groups experiencing the district for a short time are seem to be adapting to the fictional places with an understanding that ignores local and original. The fragility situation brought by the fact that the individuals who are participated afterwards to the neighborhood have the 'movable roots' contrary to 'root out' are becoming evident. It turns out memory transmission between generations is insufficient and social frame can not be built in the invention of new traditions.
