Abstract (EN)
The comparison of Cajal cells and Caveolin 1 levels were aimed between patients underwent pyeloplasty operation as a result of ureteropelvic junction obstruction (UPJO) and patients had normal ureteropelvic junction but underwent nephrectomy by other reasons. Also determining theroles of Cajal cells and Caveolin 1 were planned in pathophysiology of ureteropelvic junction obstruction. 37 patients underwent dismembered pyeloplasty as a result of UPJO and 37 patients with normal UPJ underwent nephrectomy by other reasons were included in this study at University of Gaziantep Department of Urology between 2005 and 2013 Number of Cajal cells and intensity of Caveolin staining were evaluated with immunohistochemical methods by using CD 117 and Caveolin 1 at the Department of Pathology. The mean of Cajal cell distribution was determined as 1,37 ± 0,54 at group 1 with UPJO and 2,13 ± 0,53 at group 2. The mean of Caveolin 1 staining intensity was determined as 1,86 ± 0,82 at group 1 with UPJO and 2,37 ± 0,75 at group 2. It was determined that there was a statistical difference between two groups in terms of distribution of Cajal cells and Caveolin1 staining decreased in group 1 (p=0.001, p=0.008). As a result of findings which approved the role of Cajal cells and Caveolin 1 in signal transduction and peristaltism at urogenitalsystem, it was observed that Cajal cells and Caveolin 1 levels wereless in the control group as compared to the group with UPJO, in this study. These results supported that there might be a relationship between Cajal cells and Caveolin 1 for signal transduction in urinary system. Key Words: Ureteropelvic Junction Obstruction, Cajal Cell, Caveolin 1
