Abstract (EN)

The study was a randomised pretest-posttest control group study conducted to determine the effect of the use of virtual reality goggles on the anxiety level of patients undergoing urodynamic procedure in Trabzon Kanuni Training and Research Hospital. A total of 86 patients, 43 virtual reality group (virtual reality goggles were applied) and 43 control group (virtual reality goggles were not applied), which were determined by randomisation, constituted the study. As a data collection tool, the Study Data Collection Form and State-Trait Anxiety Scale before and after the procedure were applied to the patients. In the control group, the study data collection form and state-trait anxiety scale were completed before the procedure, and the state anxiety scale was completed after the procedure. In the virtual reality group, the study data collection form and state-continuance anxiety scale were filled out before the procedure, and a video of nature landscapes was watched by wearing virtual reality glasses during the procedure. At the end of the procedure, a state anxiety scale form was filled out as in the control group. When the state anxiety was analysed, a statistically significant difference was found between the pre-test and post-test in both individuals who wore virtual reality glasses and individuals who did not wear virtual reality glasses. For both groups, the post-test values were subtracted from the pre-test values and the differences were analysed. The pre-test post-test difference in the experimental group was 14.56, while it was 7.12 in the control group. The decrease in the experimental group was found to be higher than the control group. The decrease in state anxiety of individuals who use virtual reality glasses is higher than individuals who do not use virtual reality goggles. A moderate positive correlation was found between state anxiety and trait anxiety (r=0.327; p=0.002). This study is the first study in which virtual reality glasses were used in adult urodynamics test.
