Abstract (EN)
This study examines the learners' satisfaction and perceived learning levels in an experiment in which pedagogical support was provided via short message system (SMS) in the Photography and Camera Operation Associate Degree Program of Anadolu University. The study was conducted in the framework of the uses and gratification theory. The scope of the study was to identify the learners' satisfaction and perceived learning levels, and examine the relationship between these two variables. The Visual Culture Course in the program and the learners enrolled to this course were chosen to conduct the study. Throughout the semester, the learners in this course received one or two short messages that included guidance, notification or recap information. At the end of the course, an online survey was used to collect data about their level of satisfaction and perceived learning. The study has shown that open and distance learners were quite satisfied with receiving pedagogical support via SMS but their perceived learning levels were not as high as it was hypothesized. Additionally, a strong relationship was identified about the learners' satisfaction and perceived learning levels. A list of recommendations (implications) were developed based on the findings of this study to both practitioners and researchers.
