Abstract (EN)

The aim of this thesis is to determine the origin of the pore water of the mud volcano which existence is determined by the seismic data of the Lake Van. For this purpose a sedimentary core was taken 70 cm long from the mud volcano. Bottom water sample was taken from the top of the sediment core and pore water samples were taken from the sedimentary core. ICP-MS and ion chromatography analysis on bottom water and pore water samples showed similar chemical properties of waters. According to the Piper Diagram, Durov Diagram and Schoeller Diagram plotted according to the results of the analysis, it was found that the water samples had similar origin and generally had similar origin while interacting with the drainage basin. It is not possible to mention a volcanic formation at the point defined as a mud volcano. The interpretation of salinity according to the data obtained from the pore water was interpreted and the lake was evaluated by lake level changes. According to this evaluation, the chemical composition of the water at 15 and 35 cm indicates that the lake water level has risen in these periods. It came to the conclusion that these times coinciding with the years of AD 1885 and AD 1698 were colder and rainy and this may result from Little Ice Age at the Nothern Hemisphere.
