The role of beck anxiety inventory and short symptom inventory on treatment in patients with vocal cord nodules

ABSTRACT Objective: Hoarseness is one of the most common health problems. Vocal cord nodules, which is one of the most common causes of hoarseness, usually arise due to so-called misuse of voice. Shouting, talking too much and not following the rules of sound hygiene are the main reasons. Material and Methods: The study included 23 patients with vocal cord nodule who admitted to Karadeniz Technical University Department of Otorhinolaryngology with hoarseness. Similarly, similar questionnaires were administered to 23 control group patients who agreed to participate in the study. Before and after treatment, short symptom inventory, voice handicap index and Becks anxiety scale were evaluated. Results: Voice handicap index, short symptom inventory global and subgroup measures, Beck anxiety scale values were found to be significantly different as well as after the treatment in control and vocal fold nodul group. Conclusion: The results of our study show that the vocal cord nodule is a pathology that is directly related to multiple factors, complex and psychological factors.
