The use of comic stories (graphic novel) in teaching Turkish asa foreign language

The aim of this study, named "USE OF COMIC STORIES IN TEACHING TURKISH AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE", is to examine the use of comics in teaching Turkish as a foreign language. The study, in which the literature review method was used, was designed in accordance with the survey model. For this purpose, related articles were examined. In this descriptive study, data were collected by document analysis method and analyzed by content analysis method. In the study, the materials used in teaching Turkish to foreigners were mentioned. The points that should be considered in language teaching to foreigners are emphasized. Visual elements used in vocabulary teaching techniques and exercises in foreign and Turkish textbooks in language teaching are mentioned. The frequency of use of visual elements in the methods of teaching Turkish to foreigners was examined. In this study: the basic principles of teaching Turkish to foreigners, teaching principles, foreign language, second language, foreign language teaching methods are mentioned. The comic story, the use of the cartoon and the history of the cartoon were examined. The use of cartoons as a material in language teaching to foreigners has been examined. The four basic language skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing were evaluated. In the examinations made, it has been determined that language cannot be learned separately from cultural elements in language teaching. It has been concluded that the more the student's sense organs are addressed in language teaching, the more permanent the learning will be. In this context, it has been understood that the cartoon is a tool that reflects the culture of the language as it is a literary work. It has been concluded that it will support foreign language learning as it will appeal to the visual intelligence of the student and more than one sensory organ with the intense visual elements it contains. It has been touched on that the language learner will be more active during the lesson with the use of cartoons in language teaching to foreigners. It has been pointed out that learning will become more permanent in this way. It has been suggested to use cartoons as a material in teaching Turkish to foreigners. It is expected that this study will contribute to future studies and help by giving ideas.
