Abstract (EN)
The subject of this thesis is about Kurds in Mu?cemü?l-büldan written by Yâkût el-Hamevî (626/1229) who was a leader in his field of classical Islamic history and geography, and benefited from the prior resources originally. The author who had lived at the end of the sixt century and beginning of the seventh century, gives us considerable information about Kurds. According to Mu?cemü?l-büldan, Kurds had lived on the main geographical regions such as Al-Jazeera, Cibal, Armenian and Azerbaijan with far geographical regions such as Faris, Kerman, Khorasan and Khuzestan. Kurds generally had chosen to live in the mountainous areas as well as they had lived in residental areas such as town, village, country and city. Kurds had been remained in Islamic States borders after conquests. Being in this area they had autonomous or self-governing administration. Meanwhile they had formed the main ethnical stucture of some significant civilizations and cultural centers. Kurds, according to Yâkût's writings, had lived as communities in various regions. Kurdish geography had been an important source of income for islamic states. Their economies are based on agriculture and animal husbandry. They had got deep religous life before and after Islam.It is understood according the information which Yâkût provide; Kurds mostly had lived in mountainous areas in tribials, are engaged in agriculture and animal husbandry, however, they had growed a large number of scholars.
