Abstract (EN)
The deconstruction method, which was initially put forward by Derrida as a text reading method and later suggested the analytical examination of 'structure', was put into practice in many fields. Aim; breaking the 'whole' into its parts; It is to reveal contradictions by examining the relationship between subunits. This method has also been examined specifically in the field of graphic design. In deconstruction; Differences are identified, but a synthesis of these differences is considered, and there is no concern for drawing a fixed conclusion. Designers with postmodern thought, such as David Carson, Neville Brody, and Wolfgan Weingart, who examine the differences of pure typographic elements and make experimental studies of their use together, reconsider the differences in a typographic work (such as different serif structures, thinness and thickness values in the letter structure, or the use of spaces within the letters...) They have come up with experimental designs that go beyond existing paradigms. Postmodenist designers such as Pierre Bernard and Zuzana Licko carried out studies to research and develop experimental methods in accordance with the principles of the postmodern period (especially the principle against the idea of postmodernism creating and imposing an absolute). The thesis titled "Examination of Experimental Typography Applications in the Context of Deconstruction Method" consists of five chapters. In these sections, experimentalism styles in the field of typography and the goals of the experiments are compared according to periods. For example, the methodological differences between the concerns in pre-modern typographic experiments and the experimental typography made in the modern and postmodern periods are explained by comparing them through examples. Additionally, it has been tried to explain why deconstruction is a suitable method for the field of graphic design to produce experimental typographic designs. The main problems of this examination-based thesis are: "What is the deconstruction method?", "What should be the principles when applying this method?", and "How can experimental typographic studies be carried out with a deconstructionist attitude?" The questions were answered by giving examples. In the application part of the thesis, letter designs that coincide with the examined deconstruction method and the determined principles were created. Deconstruction ensures that the scientific (objective) side of graphic design is not forgotten by both revealing new design ideas for new experimental typographic studies and allowing existing rules to be reviewed with an analytical method.
