Abstract (EN)
Lap joints aplication are made by using adhesives in many areas. Previous years lap joins are made by usin withbolts and rivets. These materials have advantages and disadvantages. The adhesive industry which has developed rapidly in the fallowing years, has enabled the use of adhesives in lap joints. The most important disavantages of lap joints is that thes moment which are generated at a connection area (joint face). In single-action lap joints, when the joined elements are subjected to tensile force from their end points, moment occurs in the lap area. The main reason for the moment formation is that the applied force acts on different points from the center of gravity of the joint. This situation negatively affects the breaking load of the adhesive in lap joints. Some changes have been envisaged in the connection geometry in order to reduce the value and effects of the resulting moment and increase the performance of the adhesive. The purpose of the chenges in geometry is to bring the drection of pulling force closer to the center of gravity of the connection. hereat increasing the breaking load by deereasing the value of the resulting moment is the main aim of the study. The taguchi method was used to determine the most suitable geometry. After joining the aluminum and steel plates with the classical overlay method using DP460 adhesive, the breaking load values were determined using the finite element method. Then, geometric changes were made on the plates and the breaking loads were determined using the finite element method. Finally, the study was completed by comparing all the obtained results and making the necessary evaluations.
