Abstract (EN)

Cinema as an art is above all sociological. Dynamics, interactions, conflicts, controversies or expectations of societies have been reflected in the white screen and cinema has been used as a social language. The relationship between cinema and sociology in Turkey has also manifested itself as the memory and inner voice of the society. Yavuz Turgul is one of the most clearly heard internal voices of this memory. Taking this as a starting point, and from the assumption that Yavuz Turgul, as a storyteller and director, has had a sensitive connection with his time and society, in this study, his position on cultural change will be examined and cultural codes and cultural representations he drew on in his films as an indicator of consciousness against cultural change will be evaluated. Some of his movies, Muhsin Bey (1986), Aşk Filmlerinin Unutulmaz Yönetmeni (1990), Gölge Oyunu (1993), and Eşkıya (1996), which he wrote and directed between 1986 and 1996, have been investigated in the context of political and sociological conjuncture of the 80s and 90s and within the framework of cultural codes and cultural representations. Moreover, his Gönül Yarası (2005) and Av Mevsimi (2010) have been examined as a sample. Keywords: Yavuz Turgul, cultural change, eastern culture, cultural conflict, social change
