The relationship between eating attitudes and seperation individuation

The relationship between Eating Attitudes and Separation Individuation was examined among individuals aged 18-65 in the study. Eating attitude scores and separation individuation pathology scores were examined in relation to sociodemographic groups such as gender, age, marital status, number of siblings, lack of parental time, and separation from parents. Additionally, the correlation between eating attitudes and separation individuation pathology was analyzed within themselves. The research was completed with 160 participants. Participants were administered the Eating Attitude Test (YTT26), Dutch Eating Behavior Questionnaire (DEBQ), Separation Individuation Scale (SII), and a demographic information form prepared by the researcher. It was revealed that individuals with potential pathology in separation individuation in the context of adults also have the potential to develop eating disorders. The unexpected but valuable finding emerged that the likelihood of eating pathology in singles could be higher than in married individuals and similarly, singles might show more separation individuation pathology compared to married individuals. Correlation analysis was conducted between Eating Attitude Tests (YTT26 and DEBQ) and Separation Individuation Scale. The results indicated that separation individuation pathology and eating attitudes are correlated. Thus, the hypothesis that individuals facing difficulties in separation individuation might experience problems in eating attitudes was confirmed.
