"Yeni Başlayanlar İçin Metafizik" and "Ermiş" & "Ermişin Bahçesi": philosophy in the poems of Cahit Koytak and Khalil Cibran

There has always been a relationship between poetry and philosophy. Many philosophers even expressed their philosophies through it. Cahit Koytak, who has written many works in Modern Turkish Literature, also philosophizes in a sense with his poems. Lebanese poet Khalil Gibran,known in the Arab world and all over the world, is also a poet who philosophizes with his poems. Philosophy inherently involves a subjective field. It is a subject worth researching what kind of philosophical attitude both poets exhibit through their poems. This issue will be investigated in this thesis. First, each poet will be discussed separately and then compared. Khalil Gibran has many books and these books have been translated into many languages around the world. One of these books, "The Saint" and its sequel, "The Garden of the Saint", are the most read books and have been translated into many languages. These books of Khalil Gibran were selected in the thesis. Cahit Koytak is also a poet who includes a lot of philosophical topics in his poems. Cahit Koytak mainly engages in philosophy, especially in his book titled "Metaphysics for Beginners", as can be understood from the end of the book. For this reason, Cahit Koytak's mentioned book was chosen. Here, first of all, what philosophy is will be discussed. The basis will be based on Takiyyedine Mengüşoğlu's book "Human Philosophy", which is an important source on this subject. Then, the basic terms of philosophy will be compiled from different sources. Particularly, books and works of authors such as Selahattin Hilav, Nemi Uygur, Hilmi Yavuz and Füsun Akatlı on the relationship between literature and philosophy will be benefited. On this subject, especially Hilmi Yavuz's books "On Literature" and "On Philosophy" will be examined. Apart from Cahit Koytak's poetry books, his articles on the relationship between poetry and philosophy, written both in newspapers and on websites, will also be examined. The thesis is important in terms of revealing the relationship between poetry and philosophy.
