The COVID-19 exam of black women in the America of the new right: A review in the context of intersectionality theory

Neoliberalism was developed by three interrelated schools, namely Freiburg, Vienna and Chicago. Representatives of three neoliberal schools have been involved in shaping the policies of New Right. The neoliberal programs implemented by New Right have weakened working class, privatized public services, and established market approach in which all areas are economized. New Right used neo-conservatism to provide legitimacy to its economic policies and implemented policies that prioritized tradition, hierarchy, authority and state power. Intersectionality theory, focuses on inadequacy of single-plane analyses of the injustices experienced by a sociological group or individual. Intersectionality argues that pressures from multiple dimensions produce inequalities and that analyses should take into account all planes. Although Covid-19 pandemic emerged as a public health problem, it is a crisis that has an impact on economic and sociological areas. Those whose economic situation has deteriorated due to New Right policies, who have lost public sector and whose access to basic services such as health has decreased, have been caught unprepared and weakened by the pandemic. Individuals and communities in intersectional positions and weakened by new right policies, have been more affected by Covid-19 pandemic. In this study, posts of 16 Twitter accounts were analyzed using a mixed analysis method to identify the injustices experienced by black American women due to their intersectional position in Covid-19 pandemic. Police violence, problems of access to childcare services and paid leave, discrimination in health services, gender inequality, violence and harassment were reflected in the findings as intersectional problems that aggravated pandemic.
