Contents in main news of local televisions: Example of Elazığ and Malatya provicences

Local media carries common characteristics in terms of functions with mainstream media. However local media, carries important responsibilities in sense of locality unlike the national media. Because, news about events in the country and on the international agenda are already included in publications of mainstream media. It is imposible to focus on only one region for news media which focus on common issues that concern everyone. Therefore locality is quite important for local media. Also local media has an important role. In this context, people are informed by local issues included in main news bulletins broadcasted by local media. In main news bulletins, news that concerns region and province were included. Also, news that concern province such as various problems of city, expectations and complaints of citizens, cultural activities, local authorities and traffic accidents were given in news. In this study, local televisions located in Elazığ and Malatya provinces were examined in terms of function of news broadcasting. In this context, news content, news sources, news topics, border of issues of local televisions and especially extent of local ones in reflected news were examined. In this study, it was concluded that local televisions often fulfill their duty for provide news and information, but lacking at the point of criticisms and warnings.
