Abstract (EN)

In the current thesis, the researcher used one of the qualitative and Phenemonological research methods called Online Photovoice (OPV) to explore the perceptions of adults living in Turkey about the use of technology in early childhood from their unique perspectives. The study was qualitatively designed with the aim of revealing adults' understanding and perceptions of technology use in early childhood through the main themes that would emerge. A total of 127 people aged 18 and over participated in the study and 123 participants gave consent. Data analysis was conducted with these 123 participants. Online Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (OIPA) was used for data analysis. Eighteen main themes emerged. The most important main themes included parental control, restriction (20%, n = 24); addiction, willpower, bad habits (20%, n = 24); uncontrolled use, waste of time (20%, n = 24);and negative effects on social emotional development, incompatibility with peers, unsatisfied children (15%, n = 18). As a result, we see that adults have a more negative perception when it comes to the use of technology in early childhood. When adults mentioned technology in early childhood, they mostly used words expressing negative emotions. However, positive themes were also encountered. When the photos uploaded by the participants were analyzed, 12 main photo themes emerged The findings were discussed in light of the relevant literature. The researcher aimed to share the findings with mental health professionals, educators and relevant organizations through different means. Thus, it is aimed to gain a better scientific understanding of adults' understanding of technology use in early childhood which is an important and critical issue. In this way, problems related to this phenomenon can be addressed more effectively and contribute to the overall well-being of individuals.
