Abstract (EN)

Three different types of decorative paper and three different gram weights were applied to the surfaces of raw sheets to investigate their effects on the mechanical resistance and surface optical properties of the sheets. A positive correlation was found between bending resistance and decorative paper weight; samples coated with 80 g/m², 90 g/m², and 110 g/m² decorative papers showed increases in bending resistance of 15.31%, 16.26%, and 38.75%, respectively. However, no statistically significant difference was observed in surface tensile strength (IB) values based on decorative paper type and weight. Surface screw-holding resistance values were found to be lower in samples with decorative paper coating compared to control samples. Additionally, surface durability values were examined, revealing no significant difference in low gram weights (80-90 g/m²), while a decrease in surface durability values was observed in the highest gram weight papers (110 g/m²) (5.2% and 3.1% decrease, respectively). This phenomenon was attributed to the sanding of surfaces for lamination potentially causing weakening and deformation of sheet surfaces. The surface resistance to steam, water, coffee, acetone, and alcohol was determined to be the highest resistance level of 5. In color change measurements, the highest total color difference was observed with alcohol and acetone effects on sheets coated with 80 g/m² Beyaz-C decorative paper, with ΔE values of 1.48 and 1.18, respectively. These two values represent the highest total color difference observed in all experiments conducted during this study and are measured above ΔE:1.0, which signifies the perceptible difference for the human eye. This indicates the effectiveness of visual and sensory analyses in classification processes, yet it is recommended to utilize advanced equipment such as color spectroscopy to measure and compare color changes on the surfaces of decorative papers more accurately and under different conditions.
