A study on Yücel Balku's life and stories

Yücel Balku, was born in Iğdır. Where he spent some time of his childhood, in 1969. Later, he continued his study in İstanbul and Sakarya. He graduated from University of Uludağ, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Department of International Relations and settled in Bursa in 1988. Balku, published a magazine named Prometheus with his friend in 1992. He wrote Boğanak, his first story for Hayalet Gemi and continued his writing career by writing and translating stories fort he same magazine. In 2000, Balku won İnkılâp Kitabevi Story Award. A year later, in 2001, he was awarded the first prize for Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar Essay Award. He died of a heart attach on December 15, 2003. All his writings were collected in a single book and published with the title of Sükût Ayyuka Çıkar (Unfinished Corpus) Yücel Balku, who can be described as a story writer after 1990, used fantastic elements in his stories and achieved a rich variety in terms of topics, fiction, themes and characters. In his stories, he used common imeges such as death, betrayal, snake, dream and established an organic bond between these motivations and his Works.
