The correlation between interleukin-6 and cardiac enzymes in cardiovascular disease patients with high lipid profile levels

Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are many varieties of health issues that can influence the cardiovascular system. They are a group of diverse disorders primarily caused by atherosclerosis. CVDs are long-term conditions that develop slowly over time and often may not show symptoms for an extended period. CVDs are the primary reason for illness and death in patients globally. This case-control study included 200 participants divided into two groups. The first group included 100 patients suffering from cardiovascular diseases admitted to the emergency department and the cardiology wards of Sinjar General Hospital. The second group, which included 100 participants of the same age and gender, was the healthy control group. IL-6 was screened using ELISA, liver enzymes, and lipid profile using a fully automated analyzer. The serum levels of IL-6, CK-MB, troponin t, TC, TG, LDL, and VLDL were high in patients compared to healthy controls with p-value = 0.001, except HDL was low in patients compared to healthy controls with p-value = 0.001. According to the current study, there is no association between IL-6 and cardiac enzymes, while CK-MB is positively associated with TG and VLDL.
