Editing and reviewing Zenbillizade Fudayl Çelebi's tanwi' al-usul

Significant amount of scholarly studies known as classic books among the written sources of Islamic culture are still in manuscript forms. Publishing these manuscripts written in a specific field with the framework of a scholarly tradition will contribute to new findings and data in the contemporary version of those fields. Thus, working on the manuscripts is one's responsibility to the past, and will form a basis for the future studies. When the subject of the study field is Fiqh (Islamic Law) and Fiqh al-usul (Methodology of Islamic Law) there is a heritage of a great number of classics from the past. In this dissertation, we edited the manuscript of Tanwiʻ al-usul which belongs to faqih of Ottoman period, Zenbillizade Fudayl Çelebi, and evaluated his ideas on Methodology of Fiqh. We also included his biography in order to help us understand and analyze his ideas more clearly. This study consists of an Introduction and three Sections and a Conclusion. In the Introduction, important issues such as subject, scope, purpose, methods and technics of the dissertation are covered. In the Second Section we evaluated the data about the life of Fudayl Çelebi, his scholarly personality and his other works. In the Third Section, we tried to signify and differentiate particular points the author benefited from other methodologist before him. In the Fourth Section, we introduced the copies of the manuscript and explained the methods we followed while editing it. In the Conclusion, we evaluated the data and findings.
