Abstract (EN)

PURPOSE: The research is a descriptive cross-sectional study that evaluates the collagen cross-linking activity applied in different settings at the Recep Tayyip Erdogan University Faculty of Medicine Education and Research Hospital, Department of Ophthalmology. METHODS: The study included 60 patients with a diagnosis of keratoconus, who were diagnosed with biomicroscopic, retinoscopic and topographic findings, and showed progression. Epi-on corneal collagen cross-linking was performed on 30 eyes of 30 patients under atmospheric conditions, on 30 eyes of 30 patients in 100% oxygenated environment. The measures were evaluated before collagen cross-linking, postoperative 1st week, 1st and 6th months. The data obtained were analyzed by SPSS 25.0 program. RESULTS: There was no difference between the groups in the average age and gender evaluation. The mean low order aberrations of the patients who were operated under atmospheric conditions was lower than those were operated in 100% oxygenated environment. The mean cylindrical power of the patients who were operated in atmospheric conditions was higher than those who were operated in 100% oxygenated environment. In the analysis performed on the postoperative 1st week, 1st month and 6th month groups, there was no difference between the evaluation criterias. The mean of the demarcation line of the patients who were operated in atmospheric conditions was lower than those who were operated in 100% oxygenated environment. Central corneal cal / demarcation line averages of patients who underwent operation in atmospheric conditions were higher than the central corneal cal / demarcation line averages of patients operated in 100% oxygenated environment. vi CONCLUSION: We detected a deeper corneal damarcation line after CXL treatment performed in %100 oxygenated environment. However, both methods were found to be similarly effective against keratoconus progression.
