Özet (EN)

This study has been prepared as an MSc thesis at the Department ofGeology of Institue of Natural and Applied Sciences, University of Çukurova in theacademic year of 2005-2006.The landslides occurred west of the 100. Yıl region in December 2001 andJanuary 2002 are the main subject of this study.First, after a detailed field work, the landslides were mapped and theirdimensions have been determined. Then, undisturbed and disturbed samples weretaken in order to determine the geotecnical characteristics of the Handere Formation.Necessary data for office studies have been obtained, after evaluating both the fieldand laboratory data. Causes, mechanisms, enviromentel effects of the landslides andnecessary measurements need to be taken were investigated using computer analysisin the office. The results showed that excessive rainfall in February, 2001 and January,2002 causing saturation of the units and pore pressure increase and effective pressuredecrease as a result, also the existance of an altered claystone unite caused thelandslide. Dip and joint pattern of these units played a major role in these landslides.Key Words : Landslide, Handere Formation, Excessive Rainfalls, PoreWater Pressure, Effective Pressure.II
