Crimea according to 38 numbered, 1116-1117/1704-1706 dated book of Kadiasker

As a form of law enforcement, the recording of cases is an ancient part of the Ottoman state tradition. The mentioned state tradition was actively practiced in various part of the empire, and various events such as the sale of property, marriage and divorce, injury to a man or domestic violence were recorded in the registers one by one by passing the judgement of the Kadi. In 1475, the Crimean Khanate, which came under the protection of the Ottoman Empire with the conquer of Kefe, also continued the Ottoman understanding of law, and thus the practice of noting the cases in the court, which had become a part of law system, showed its traces here as well. The cases that were concluded and recorded by the competent Kadi's judgeship not only served as written evidence within the period they subsumed, but also as a source for observing Ottoman law, socio-economic structure, and daily life by transforming them into material for the historian. In this context, we have transcribed the Crimean Kadi Registry No. 38 dated 1116-1117/1704-1706 and evaluated the situation of the Crimean Khanate under various headings. In the first section, the villages and neighborhoods in the khanate compared with their counterparts in the Ottoman Empire. The structural planning of the neighborhoods and the dynamics of people's coexistence discussed. In the second part, the implementation of Ottoman law and the social structure of the Crimean Khanate explained. It also discusses the dynamics that led to the criminal incidents that were brought to court. In the third part, the material resources of the Khanate, analyzed. As the Crimean Kadi Registry No. 3, which constitutes our main source, covers a very short period, its beyond to scope of our findings and the study to give precise and general information about Crimea based on our source. Therefore, without going beyond our data, we aim to shed some light on the shadowy history of Crimea in the light of micro-scale practices.
