Abstract (EN)

Discourse, is the name of taking a stance towards a social event by persons or the groups which have the same aim, perspective, self-respect, and ideology. A text or a dialogue is the mechanism which the writer or the speakers is instrumentalized to explain their discourse. However, sometimes the writer or speaker dissembles the real intention of the events under the words. Clearly expressed and dissembled intentions are analysed by discourse analysis methods. Discourse analysis deals with social events such as wars, coups, starvations, racial discriminations, and religious conflicts etc. which take place in countries. Several abrasive processes have been eluded since the foundation of Turkish Republic till now. Especially 12 September 1980 Coup and 15 July Coup Attempt can be examples of these processes. The 12 September 1980 Coup is the coup when the civil administrators who are representatives of the nationality become powerless to govern the country, and Genaral Evren and law-enforcers seized power in the chain of command on account of the fact that anarchy and terror increased in the country. In this research, it is aimed to compare the discourse and the expressions of the newspapers such as Milliyet, Hürriyet, Milli Gazete, Cumhuriyet and Ortadoğu about the coup. In this period, the discourse of the published newspapers which are shaped around "coup" concept analysed by Teun Van Dijk's Discourse Analysis which is one of the linguistic analysis. At the end of the analysis, the significant differences in discourses of the newspapers are not detected.
