Women's case in the 19th century Azerbaijan jedidism

Azerbaijan is situated in the Caucasus region which is junction of West Asia and Eastern Europe. As a country of the largest area in South Caucasus, Azerbaijan borders with Caspian Sea on the east, Russia on the north, Georgia on the northwest, Armenia on the west and Iran on the south. Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, belongs to the Azerbaijan as an exclave, is bordered on the north and east with Armenia, on the south and west with Iran. Nakhchivan also shares 17 km wide with Turkey. In history, a variety of civilizations existed in Azerbaijan. As we know, huge Turkic community used to live in Azerbaijan since ancient times. During the rule of Seljuk Empire, Beylik period and Aq Qoyunlu, Qara Qoyunlu dynesties as well as Sefevid dynesty, Turkish culture, with its all elements, was considered as dominant culture in all this region. In 19th century, a new political development which divided Azerbaijan's Turkic in to two parts appeared as northern and southern Azerbaijan. Especially from 19th century, the Renaissance period of Azerbaijan was started, changing requests began to primary task within this framework. Like a lot of eastern countries, Women's issues has been a part of major problems in Azerbaijan. So, it is important to follow the typical female view's changing and we possibly come to a conclusion that Jedidist Movement also would be followed from this point. In this study "The concept of women in the Jedidist Movement in Azerbaijan" I will try to answer the question what kind of effection does Azerbaijan have in reformation movement within Turkic world and the role of Azerbaijan's women in this movement. Under the help of related documents, we can figure out how reformation movement were developed and how women take place in this movement. Keywords: Azerbaijan, Jedidizm, Woman
