Abstract (EN)
One of the trending and increasingly important research area in history, is the history of urbanism; and judicial records serve as the most important and unique resource in this area. In this work, it is aimed to investigate political, administrative, socio-economic and cultural structure of the city of Manisa, through the judicial records, with a scientific approach and a unique method; and to contribute to some generalizations and determinations related to the Ottoman city structure. The scope of the research is confined to the judicial records of Manisa, dated 1145 - 1146 (Hijri) and numbered 190; which establish the fundamental resource on this subject by reflecting essential information regarding the city of Manisa during 1732 - 1733 (Gregorian). The examined judicial records, by the cases and records contained, present important information for the period concerned, on the city center, neighborhoods, settlements such as districts and villages, and social and cultural life of various occupational groups and people who lived in the vicinity of Manisa. These are the information on the personal rights of people, their family relations, also their various belongings, agricultural products and utensils, animals fed for various purposes, and the prices of these goods. It is also possible to observe from the court records, the effects of the laws applied and the consequences in that period on their social life. Finally, from some documents in the records, it is possible to obtain information about the political issues of that period and govermental relations with the center and its surroundings. In conclusion, all the data in these records have been examined, statistically analyzed in terms of quantity and quality, and tried to be presented in a comprehensive result.
