Cyprus policy of Turkey between 1923 – 1960

Cyprus is the third largest Mediterranean island. Cyprus is located in 1100 km East of Greece, 71 km South of Turkey it's about 400 km to Egypt and 100 km to Syria. By the time 16th century, Hittite, Egypt, Assyrian, Byzantine, Lusignan, Venezia dominated by various states. It was taken from the Venetians in 1571 with an organised embark by the Ottoman Empire and entered the Ottoman administration. Until 1878, it remained under Ottoman administration. As a result of an agreement between the Ottoman Empire and England in 1878, the British administration began on the island. The UK didn't comply the their agreement with Ottoman Empire in 1878 and annexed the island unilaterally in 1914. Cyprus is given to England formalized in 1923 with the Treaty of Lausanne. After the Second World War, Britain entered into the process of leaving its colonies. Thus, in Cyprus attempts to end the British administration began and the British administration ended in 1960 bi-zonality Republic of Cyprus was established. This status didn't take a long, and ended with unpleasant events. Cyprus has attracted the attention of many countries since ancient times because of its importance in strategic, commercial and geopolitical aspects in the Eastern Mediterranean. The Cyprus problem began to manifest itself with the emergence of the independent Greece dream in the 18th century. In the ongoing process request the merger of Cyprus with Greece, has led to disputes between Greece and Turkey. The Cyprus issue as a problem in the mid-1950s has started to come up frequently in Turkey. Turkey defended its thesis that the island was given to itself until 1957. After this date, it adopted of the thesis of divide. With the London and Zurich Treaties; Turkey, Greece and Britain have been the island's guarantor states.
