The place of 1950 elections in Turkish democratization process

The main purpose of this study is, in the democratic process of Turkey; to emphasize the ?1950 Elections? and to be able to explain that it was the ?1950 Elections? that is the base in transition to multi party democratic life rather than the ?1946 Elections?.The thesis is divided into 3 sections. In the first section, various democracy concepts have been touched upon, later on the changes the democracy has experienced from beginning to today and today?s democracy has been dealt. In this context, the components that a democracy should have have been explained and the principle of periodic, fair and free elections have been dealt with in detail, which is regarded relatively the most important issue in our study.In the second section; the developments which took place between parliamentary regimes trials in late Ottoman period and 1946, 1921 and 1924 Constitutions, one-party era policies and their reflections in the community have been dealt within the frame of times series and democratization.In the last section, the external impacts caused by World War II and broad discussion environment created by the authoritarian government have been explained. In addition, 1946 Elections and 1950 Elections which was initiated with the establishment of Democrat Party and paved the way for the first general elections, under the security of justice, fair, free and based on secret ballot- open counting principle have been dealt.
