Intellectual and actual formation of political ideology in youth of the 1970s

The concept of ideology, which has different meanings throughout the historical process, has become one of the central concepts in political sociology with its mostly political meaning. The ideology that provides a road map in the lives of individuals has been shaped according to the periodic characteristics of societies and has continued its existence in the social and political arena. With the politicization of youth movements in Turkey in the 1970s, the ideology and political groups that were at the center of the political and social sphere had an impact on young people. The aim of the research is to examine the effects of the ideologies of Nationalism, Socialism-Communism and Islamism, which were influential in Turkey in the 1970s, and the political groups of Ülkü Ocakları, Devrimci Yol and Milli Görüş, which mediated these ideologies, on university students who actively acted within these groups. The main question of the research is what are the effects of the individual, ideology and political group relationship on the individual. In this context, the positions of individuals within the political group, how they see themselves within the group, and the consequences of this relationship will be discussed. The research is a qualitative study using the phenomenology method. The data obtained through 28 interviews with semi-structured questions prepared based on these methods and techniques will be analyzed descriptively and the research results will be presented.
