The structure of Turkish stories from 1980 to 2000

The story, as a highly debated literary genre among the others, took its western form 100 years ago in Turkish literature. It is clear that this genre, which is first exemplified with Samipaşazâde Sezai, is a brand new form of literature even though a different story tradition has been mentioned since the oral literature period. The story - having strived to exist in the literature for a long time – has been able to secure its position with Ömer Seyfettin. The story, showing up as a separate genre in Turkish literature, has started to progress rapidly. Eventual story under the thumb of Maupassant and situational story under the thumb of Chekhov has begun to spread among Turkish story writers. After these first experiences, 1950s has signaled the start of a new period in Turkish stories. Reforms that have been brought by this era have been influential on post 1980s, as well. Post 1980s is the period of accretion of stories in literature. Not only criticisms based on Modernism but also social and political structure resulting from Turkey coup d'etat have ended up variety in stories. The stories have generally focalized on significance of modern people in big cities, inopportuneness and placelessness. Rebellion of people feeling suffocated has resulted in a different stylistic form. With Turkey coup d'etat, socialist realists have started to set their stories focusing on city centers. Whereas formal story writers have begun to make experiments in order to criticize ongoing impressure, have become the important determinant reminding the modern people the tradition and religion they forgot and left behind. The most different approach in literature of Turkish stories has been observed with postmodern works. Postmodernism that denies ongoing percept, is the most outstanding novelty in this time period. The story which has been developed on time shortage of modern people has become the densest and sharpest representative of its kind at this era. The narrative originating from story-poem relationship has been proposed as a novel genre. In the current study, it is purposed to put forward the usage of accretion of stories in literature as well as a structure from new perspectives. With the evident increase in the number of stories, it is also aimed to examine them qualitatively. Key words: story, structure in story, modern story, postmodern story, socialist realilsm.
