Abstract (EN)

The main purpose of this thesis, titled "Art as an Object of Consumption by Reproduction in Post-1990 Painting", has adopted the style of producing a work based on a work in contemporary painting, and in this context, it is aimed to investigate and evaluate how reproduction is reflected in their works as a form of artistic expression, with examples from artists who produce artworks. In this thesis, the historical development of appropriation, which is considered as a sub-stage of reproduction in contemporary painting and the transformation of value between the signifier and the signified, is examined and examples from the works of contemporary artists are given. In the second part, Plato's theory of Mimesis is compared with Aristotle's view and examined in the context of reproduction. In order to understand the artist's process of producing a work based on a work, the historical process has been discussed starting from the thesis in order to understand the relationship between the concept of appropriation, which is a sub-stage of reproduction, and reproduction. In this process, it is seen that the masterpieces in the history of art were generally produced by the method of inspiration, imitation, pastiche or quotation from a work. In the third part; In line with the simulation theory of Jean Baudrillard, one of the thinkers of the 20th century, the consumer society and art object in postmodernism were examined. In the fourth chapter, the works of the artists who produced a work based on a work were analyzed. In the fifth chapter; Artist Diego Velezquez's masterpiece "Bridesmaids" Student was examined and a comparative analysis of the work was made on the works of the artists who appropriated the work. In the sixth chapter, application studies are included in the context of the thesis topic. In these works, it has been observed that while producing works again based on reproduction, the artists hold a mirror to the period in which they live in their works. It has been understood that in these works, which were reconstructed by quoting from the previous works, it refers to the "content" that changes and transforms or is thought to have not changed according to its age and period. As a result; The works produced by reproduction have an important place in contemporary painting in terms of being a part of the new creation process as a form of pictorial expression of producing a work based on a work. In this thesis, qualitative research method was used since it aims to deal with the concept of reproduction of contemporary painting art from 1990 to the present within the framework of postmodern consumption culture. As a data collection method; A literature review was made and the method of collecting information from periodicals was preferred
