Representation of "Other" masculinity in post-2000 Turkish comedy cinema

Özet (EN)

In this study, it's analyzed how the "other male" represented in comedy genre of Turkish cinema in the context of gender. First, "gender" is explained in the axis of feminist approach and culture. Then the relation of hegemonic masculinity with male domination, power, body sociology and masculinity is examined. In order to understand and describe the "other male" concept, it's relation with homophobia, feminization and marginalization is pointed out. This study questions the representation of the other male in filmic narrative. To do that, three Turkish films,-Vizontele, G.O.R.A and Recep Ivedik which were produced after 2000- were analyzed. To analyze the films, in-depth analysis method was used to examine the representational forms of "other male" characters and types and how they positioned as an element of humour. The relation between "other male" concept and sexual identity and preference was also pointed out in this study.
