Private properity problem in Turkish cinema after 2000

Private ownership, in its simplest sense, refers to the movable and immovable property owned by a person and historically goes back as much as human history does. However, the fact that the subject has roots in such a distant past does not mean that there is any consensus on the concept of property. In liberal-paradigm which is the most common paradigm and the dominant ideology, it's stated that all citizens of a state have the right to acquire property. Does the proposition that everybody is entitled to own property mean it is so or does this right, although given to everyone, only address the privileged upper-middle and upper class of society? In the light of these questions, the inception of this thesis is based on the validity and the social facts that might have hindering effects on the concept of everyone being able to own property within the social structure. According to the movies that have been subject of this research, some findings have been observed to be amplifying the resolution that even though each member of the society has been given the right to own property is not a direct indicator that each member is able to exercise this right equally. For this reason, this thesis will investigate the development of private ownership in an attempt to shed light over the main reasons behind serious problems such as homelessness, being thrown out on the street, turning to crime in order to meet the need for shelter or suicide in the context of both Turkey and worldwide. Considering the information therein, with the purpose of finding the sorts of problems that private ownership has led to especially during the period following the year 2000, acting as a mirror on the social life; movies have been chosen to be analyzed. Films, as tools to gain data on social issues, allow us to discuss the concept of ownership. In order to have an assessment about current situation, Turkish Cinema after 2000 is decided to be the extent in the analysis part of the thesis; several films made after this year were taken into consideration and seven of them having serious findings about the problem of private ownership are chosen as samples. Especially problems that arise from private ownership being discussed in these seven films made after 2000 seem to indicate a serious problem about this period. In the light of historical development of the concept of property and the data obtained from the discussions on the concept; the problems that stem out of the notion of property in the films have been analyzed in detail by the method of qualitative content analysis.
