Abstract (EN)

Aim: Hematological cancers are neoplasms that arise as a result of excessive proliferation of cells originating from the bone marrow. Bone marrow examination is important in identifying chromosomal abnormalities associated with hematological cancers. In our study; it is aimed to contribute to the archive by retrospectively evaluating the results determined using conventional cytogenetic analysis and FISH methods in patients with pre-diagnosis of hematological cancers. Material and Method: In this study, between 2007 and 2020, conventional cytogenetic analysis and FISH method results of 310 patients who were admitted to Dicle University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Medical Biology, from Dicle University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Hematology and Department of Child Health and Diseases with the diagnosis of hematological cancers will be evaluated retrospectively. Results: Bone marrow aspiration material obtained from a total of 310 patients, 149 female and 161 male, aged between 2 and 91, studied in the genetic laboratory between 2007 and 2020, were examined by conventional cytogenetic analysis and FISH method. 67 female (47.5%) ve 74 male (52.5%) normal karyotype was observed in a total of 141 cases, and abnormal karyotype was observed in a total of 141 patients in 68 females (48.2%) and 73 males (51.8%). Metaphase was not found in 28 cases. The distribution of cases according to disease groups was as follows: Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML) 92 (29.7%), Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS) 49 (15.8%), Multiple Myeloma (MM) 41 (13.2%), Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) 40 (12.9%), Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) 30 (9.7%), Chronic Myeloproliferative Diseases (CMPH) 13 (4.2%), Lymphoma 12 (3.9%), Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) 8 (2.6%), other blood diseases were observed in 25 (8.0%) cases. Conclusion: According to the data we found in our study, we think that the chromosome analysis observed as a result of the use of conventional cytogenetic analysis and FISH method in patients with pre-diagnosis of hematological cancers will contribute to the diagnosis, treatment, prognosis and genetic counseling of the diseases. Keywords: Hematological cancers, cytogenetic analysis, conventional cytogenetics, FISH, chromosomal abnormalities.
