Abstract (EN)

Foot ulcers are frequent causes of substantial morbidity and mortality in thediabetic population. Following necessary debridement and other surgicalinterventions, appropriate antibiotic therapy is a cornerstone of managing theinfected diabetic foot.In this clinical study, we aimed that: evaluate the results in patients who hadadmitted to the department of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery ofMedical Faculty of the University of Dicle. Wound have reached a successfultreatment endpoint if closure through secondary intention or through a surgicalintervention or if adequate granulation for closure by these methods wasdocumented. Surgical interventions included flaps, grafts and amputation. Thesuccessful treatment endpoint was accepted as wound completely healed, i.e. woundclosure (no drainage) or full epithelialisation with no drainage.Negative pressure wound dressing (NPWD) has been associated withaccelerated development of granulation tissue, earlier reepithelialization of woundsand faster healing of wounds and has been used to manage very complex woundssuccessfully. There was no significant difference between treatment groups in theproportion achieving complete wound closure in either treatment group.The discussion is focused on control of infection, satisfactory blood drainageand the role of the microvascular abnormalities in the etiology that might be reasonof this unfovarable result. Microvascular dysfunction is thought not to play a role inetiologiy about in the development of diabetic foot ulcers, but this does not exclude arole in the delayed wound healing.
