Abstract (EN)

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate drowning events and drowning victims ( gender , crime scene , age , manner of death … etc.) in Antalya, in 2015. Method: The data of the cases that were found to have died as a result of drowning in Antalya between 01 January 2015-31 December 2015 were retrospective screened by media. The cases were evaluated in terms of month, age, gender and crime scene. All data were evaluated as frequency and percentage by using SPSS 23 Packet program. Results: Gender of murders were determined % 24 females and % 66 males. Percentage of drowning cases were determined Manavgat (% 22.2 ) , Alanya ( % 14.4) , Kemer ( %14.4) , Muratpaşa ( %11.1).When drowning places were investigated, the percentage of these places were beach/ sea (%71.1 ) , river (%11.1) , pool (%6.7 ) and irrigation canals (%6.7 ).The percentage of drowning manners were swimming ( %43.3) , fall off board (%11.1) , unknown (%10.0) , falling into the water (%10.0) and suicide (%8.9).The percentage of drowning times were morning (%89.9) , night (%8.9) and evening (%2 ). The percentage of drowning months were June ( % 15.6 ) , September (14.4) , July (13.3) and August (13.3). Conclusion: As a result of this study, 90 people drowned in 2015, in Antalya. Swimming and water safety education should be given at early ages to prevent drowning deaths.Picnic and recreation areas should be made more secure. Lifeguards must keep ready on the waterside.
